Synopsis of The Informer

The film tells a modern version of the story of Judas betraying Jesus. It is interspersed with political and religious plots while truly showing the social environment of Dublin - churches, taverns, and brothels. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Republic of Ireland was in turmoil. In the capital Dublin, the police offered a reward of 20 pounds for the capture of revolutionary Frank McPhilips. In order to obtain the reward, Kippo Nolan reported McPhillips to the police. Then, Kippo Nolan paid the price for his betrayal: he was taken to a secret court organized by the revolutionaries, where he was interrogated and punished. There are some allegorical and symbolic scenes in the film, which foreshadow that the male protagonist eventually becomes a whistleblower because of his blindness and his inability to escape the temptation of money. For example, when Kippo Nolan was collecting the bounty, a blind man appeared in the heavy fog, and a reward notice was blown up by the wind and wrapped around Kippo Nolan's leg. .
