Synopsis of The Belly of an Architect

Peter Greenaway's 1987 work, nominated for the British Academy Award for Best Screenplay and Best Art Director; Cannes entry. The director is a painter, and the image style of his works is naturally unique and colorful. American architect Stourley Kracklite and his young, pregnant wife Louisa come to Rome to organize an exhibition commemorating the visionary 18th-century French architect Etienne-Louis Boullée. However, Kracklite is suffering from abdominal disease, and Louisa is flirting with Caspasian Speckler, a dashing young architect who is a sponsor of the exhibition. The movie has a special focus on the belly - the sick belly of the architect and the pregnant belly of his wife. The round shape is reminiscent of the dome buildings designed by Boullée...
