# Synopsis of war

This film is based on the background of the U.S. troops landing in Italy at the end of World War II and breaking through the German defense lines. The director used touching scenes to compile some Italian folktales triggered by the U.S. troops' invasion from the south to the north into a coherent film. The socially realistic film, with its realism on screen, had a huge impact on people and set a new trend in Italian films... The second part of master Rossellini's post-war trilogy, the first part is "Rome, Undefended City" and the last part is "German Year Zero". A founder of neorealism, Rossellini rarely used scripts and explicitly rejected the use of sound stages, costumes, makeup and professional actors. The film is composed of six short stories. The background is some folk tales triggered by the Allied forces breaking through the German defense lines after landing in Italy in the late World War II and attacking from the south to the north. In front of the camera, Rossellini recreated the real experiences of American soldiers, guerrillas, monks, prostitutes, and ordinary civilians during those war-torn years. The film was interspersed with many real war scenes, making the audience empathize.
