# Synopsis of The Prisoner of Shark Island

Shark Island is a prison located in the Gulf of Mexico in the United States, surrounded by sea. Not only that, there is a special walled water area around the prison, which is full of sharks. It is almost impossible for prisoners locked up here to escape. But someone succeeded. In 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated by Booth at the Washington Theater. Booth broke his leg while jumping from the box to the stage to escape, and he and his companions fled through the night in the rain. On the way, his legs couldn't hold on any longer, and they broke into the home of country doctor Samuel Mader. Dr. Mudd treated Booth, unaware that President Lincoln had been assassinated. Booth quietly crossed out the name on his boots and tossed them aside. The next day, amid a nationwide manhunt, the military found the boot at Mader's home. Mader was arrested by a military court on charges of being an accomplice in the assassination. Mader defended himself, saying he was innocent and insisting that a doctor's job is to treat anyone who needs treatment. Booth was killed in the hunt, the other conspirators were hanged, and only Mudd survived and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Mudd was imprisoned in Shark Island Prison.
