Synopsis of Under Capricorn

The film is a mischievous work by the famous director Alfred Hitchcock who deliberately experimented with lenses. Many shots last for more than several minutes. One of them is a long shot that moves from outdoor to indoor, and shuttles back and forth between more than a dozen actors for more than ten minutes. The effect is extremely outstanding and fascinating. Bergman's mesmerizing performance is also wonderful. In 1830, Australia was a territory for British exiled prisoners. A young British man (played by Michael Whiting) followed his uncle to Australia and had an entangled relationship with a couple with a special background.
