Synopsis of Dear Son

The father dotes on his son Sami and hopes that he will succeed. His son was under pressure to enter higher education. His father was very worried but could only try his best to help him. It was not until one day that his son said goodbye silently and left a message that he wanted to "go to Syria alone" to join the jihadist organization. The father embarked on the road to find his son and found out. There have long been irreconcilable conflicts between father and son. Inspired by a true story, Tunisian director Attiyah's experience of searching for his son reflects how the country was affected by Islamic terrorism and economic stagnation after the "Arab Spring", with national tragedy and family tragedy coexisting. How to describe the complex emotions behind young people's actions that are considered irrational? Belgian film masters the Dardenne brothers co-produced this ethical drama that is calm and powerful, and ultimately transcends tragedy.
