Synopsis of Solaris
Before flying to Solaris, psychologist Chris Kelvin (played by Donatas Banionis) came to his childhood parents' home to meet with the then Solaris pilot Henry Burton (played by Vladislav Dvorzhetsky). Burton warned Kelvin that incredible things would happen on Solaris, but Kelvin didn't take it seriously. Before Kelvin left, he burned his personal belongings in front of his father (Nikolai Grinko). After Kelvin arrived at the space station near Solaris, he investigated the death of scientist Dr. Qibarian (played by Sos Sargsyan), but found that his wife Hallie (played by Natalya Bondarchuk), who had died many years ago, suddenly appeared. The panicked Kelvin discussed with three other scientists on the space station how to deal with the strange things, only to find that everyone was deeply disturbed by them and had no idea... The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival, and won the Grand Jury Prize and the International Association of Film Critics Award at the Cannes Film Festival in the same year.
