Synopsis of The Enemy Below

In the South Atlantic during World War II, the American destroyer USS Haines used radar to track the signal of a German submarine, so Captain Mueller (played by Robert Mitchum) launched a pursuit. Muller was originally the captain of the freighter, but was transferred to the captain of the Haines after it was sunk by a torpedo. There were many new recruits on board. The German Captain Sternberg (Ked Jurgis) is also an expert in ship combat. He was ordered to rendezvous with the surprise attack ship and retrieve the British code. Therefore, he always adhered to the route, but Muller saw through it and followed him. Müller was afraid that his bombardment would not hit and he would be surrounded by the German fleet, so he bombarded the enemy with depth charges every hour to wait for reinforcements to arrive. The German submarine was forced to the deep seabed to escape pursuit. As the German crew could not bear the constant bombardment by the US ships, Captain Shi played a march to boost morale. In this way, it was detected by US sonar and bombed. The Haines was also severely damaged. Muller pretended to abandon ship to lure the German submarine to the surface so that he could bombard the submarine and cause the two ships to collide...
