Synopsis of The Captain

German World War II themed film. Based on a true story, the film tells the story of Willie Herold, a nineteen-year-old ordinary Wehrmacht soldier who became the so-called "Executioner of Emsland" during the final two weeks of World War II. Using the captain's uniform he picked up, he pretended to be an officer, gathered other soldiers who had broken up to form a special task force, and looted the land of the Nazi empire that was about to fall. He followed the example of the Führer and assumed the power of arrest and death. The film won the Best Cinematography Award at last year's San Sebastian International Film Festival.
