King of Peking

Synopsis of King of Peking

A comedy film set in Beijing in the 1990s. The film tells the story of a poor movie projectionist and his son who want to get rich by opening a pirated film processing factory. The film was written and directed by Australian director Sam Voutas, and was inspired by Sam Voutas's experience growing up in Beijing in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the booming pirated film industry during this period. Partly funded through crowdfunding, the film is a heartwarming exploration of father-son relationships, morality and what it means to be a role model for others.
