Synopsis of Sissi: The Fateful Years of an Empress

The young Queen Sissi of Austria (played by Romy Schneider) visited Hungary and felt the people here's non-political enthusiasm for her. She fell deeply in love with this country and its people. A way for her to escape the pressures of royal life in Vienna. However, while she and Earl Anderson were in Hungary to appease the unwilling nobles, Queen Mother Sophie (Vilma Degischer) was spreading rumors between Sissi and the Earl. Franz (Karlheinz Böhm) has always been immersed in state affairs, allowing his mother Sophie to interfere in government affairs, including the raising of her daughter. When Sissi was diagnosed with severe tuberculosis, Franz actually obeyed his mother's wishes and asked the doctor to take his daughter away from Sissi. Sissi was sent to a remote island to recuperate. Lonely and helpless, she gradually recovered under the careful care of her mother. After Sissi recovered from her illness, she accompanied Franz on a visit to northern Italy.
