# Synopsis of Empire of Silver

This film takes the inheritance of Tianchengyuan bank account in Shanxi, which was extremely wealthy at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, as the main line, and reproduces the rise and fall of the financial industry of "China Wall Street" for a century. The story is told through the memories of a frail old man throughout the film: Master Kang (played by Zhang Tielin), the head of Tianchengyuan, has four children, but the eldest was born with a deaf-mute disability, the second was reckless and aggressive by nature, and his lower limbs were paralyzed in an accident, and the fourth was paralyzed. He went crazy because his newlywed wife was robbed and died tragically in Tianjin, leaving only the third child (played by Aaron Kwok) to inherit the ancestral family business. But Kang San held deep resentment towards his father because he took away his former lover (played by Hao Lei). Mr. Kang hoped that she could add children to the Kang family and inherit the family name, but she refused to do so. Mrs. Kang had expressed her feelings to Kang San many times, but the latter was always courteous to her stepmother and did not dare to step too far. Mr. Kang saw that Beijing branch shopkeeper Dai was very talented, so he used kindness and power to earn money from shopkeeper Qiu (played by Ding Zhicheng), making him wholeheartedly assist the young master.
