Synopsis of Dead Calm

Naval officer John Ingram (played by Sam Neill) and his wife Leigh (played by Nicole Kidman) originally had a happy family, but a disaster destroyed everything. On the way to pick up her husband at the station, the car driven by Lei collided with his car, killing their youngest son Danny (Joshua Tilden) sitting in the back seat, which plunged the couple into great grief. In order to heal the pain in his soul, John took Lei on a yacht for a sea vacation. One day, the Ingrams rescued Hughie Varenna (played by Billy Zane), a man who claimed to have died while planning to cross the Pacific. This was a well-intentioned move, but it inadvertently led the couple into another disaster... The film won four awards from the Australian Film Institute in 1989: Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Effects and Best Score.
