Synopsis of Cave of Forgotten Dreams

In the Chauvet Cave in southern France, there are original murals dating back 30,000 years, as well as mammal fossils from the Ice Age, but the entrance to the cave was blocked by falling rocks until it was accidentally discovered by scientists in 1994. This precious cave was strictly protected, and Herzog was only allowed to enter the cave for six days, four hours a day, to shoot. He also interviewed scientists involved in related research, and used his unique way to explore prehistoric humans’ cognition and understanding of things. The birth of expression, the history of art and civilization, and the curious crowds that surround the cave today. He also noticed the erosion of prehistoric relics by modern industry - there is a nuclear power plant near Chauvet Cave, and an ecosystem has been formed due to the confluence of warm water. There are even crocodiles in it. Chauvet may be threatened by being submerged in the future. This is the first time that Werner Herzog has used 3D to shoot his most passionate documentary.
