Synopsis of The New Normal

NBC's new fall 2012 drama "The New Normal" is created by Ryan Murphy, a well-known producer who already has two hit American dramas ("Glee" and "American Horror Story"). "The New Normal" is a half-hour comedy that tells the story of a gay couple and their surrogate daughter living under the same roof, welcoming and raising a child. Gay couples, played by Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells, decide to raise their own children. They target Gloria (Georgia King), a restaurant waitress and debt-ridden single mother, as a surrogate mother. After the couple became pregnant, they moved in with them, thus adding a lot of laughter and troubles to this alternative family. Religious groups had called for a boycott before the broadcast, believing that the show distorted "normal family values." However, a large number of surveys showed that "gay people can also start families" has become the mainstream of American public opinion. Therefore, the "new normal" reflected in "The New Normal" will continue to develop and grow.
