Synopsis of Wild Strawberries

Isaac (Victor Sjöström) has been practicing medicine for 50 years. He is now nearly eighty years old and is preparing to return to his alma mater to receive an honorary degree accompanied by his daughter-in-law. On the way, Isaac stopped by to revisit old places and reminisce about the past. Isaac once had a beautiful first love with his cousin Sarah (Bibi Andersson), but his cold and withdrawn personality led his brother to take advantage of it. Now Isaac is sitting on the lawn, recalling the past, and the beautiful appearance of Sara's flowing white clothes appears in front of his eyes. His innate cold and rational character doomed the marriage to failure. Isaac's wife could not bear the cold marriage and sought an affair. This kind of family atmosphere, coupled with the inherited cold temperament, made Isaac's son unwilling to have children and broke off his relationship with his daughter-in-law. Isaac received a glorious degree honor, but he was still immersed in the heavy introspection of the past. For the old man who was dying, this seemed to be a journey of spiritual redemption.
