The Last Hangman

Synopsis of The Last Hangman

Albert Pierrepoint (Timothy Spall), Britain's most famous hangman. He is calm, unsmiling, and extremely particular about his professional ethics. He can be called "the most efficient and humane first hangman in the world." This profession requires secrecy of identity, absolute coolness, and precise calculations. His professional decisiveness and speed set a record of completing the execution in 7 and a half seconds. However, this identity, which should have been secret, made Pierre Pointe a public figure because of his execution of the Nazis. Pierre Pointe never confused his career with his life, and rarely considered the cruelty of the business. Until one day in 1950, he personally "sent off" to his friend James Corbett (Eddie Marsan), causing him to almost suffer a mental breakdown. This became a turning point in Pierre Point's career. In 1955, he wrote a letter to resign from his job as a hangman, ending a 22-year career of executing 608 death row inmates.
