Synopsis of Dead Man Walking

Sister Helen (played by Susan Sarandon) is entrusted by death row inmate Matthew Ponsley (played by Sean Penn) to visit him in prison. Matthew denied the death penalty for killing a young couple and appealed. Helen traveled all the way and went deep into the village to investigate the truth. On the one hand, it was the innocent couple who was tortured to death, and on the other hand, it was the spiritual support of the criminal who was about to be executed. Helen did her best to help Matthew, but when she faced the painful complaints from the victim’s parents and the public’s anger, she Helen's heart was also caught in a tangled moral trial. Helen finally influenced Matthew. Before execution, Matthew admitted his crime and prayed for forgiveness from the victim's family, and spent the last 168 hours of his life with peace of mind and dignity. This film is adapted from the true story of nun Helen Prekin. Susan Sarandon won the 68th Academy Award for Best Actress for this film.
