Synopsis of The Way Back

Shortly after the Soviet Union and Germany partitioned Poland in 1939, Polish youth Wiszek Jonus (Jim Sturgess) was sent to a labor camp in Siberia for his so-called "anti-Party and anti-Stalin" espionage behavior. It was already 1940. In the cold Siberia, Jonus met the actor Andre, who was also a political prisoner. The latter had an escape plan that had been brewing for a long time. The American old man Smith (Ed Harris), The criminal Volka (Colin Farrell) and others gradually joined their small circle. On a snowy night, Jonus and seven others successfully escaped from the labor camp. The only thing they knew was to go south. Travel to Lake Baikal while dodging the ever-present whistleblowers. Someone died due to the harsh weather along the way. When they were about to arrive at Lake Baikal, a mysterious girl Irina (played by Saoirse Ronan) joined them. Her addition prepared the group to travel through Mongolia and Tibet. The journey across the Himalayas to British-controlled India in search of freedom added a few more difficulties...
