Synopsis of Dolemite Is My Name

Spurred on by a string of showbiz failures, struggling comedian Rudy Ray Moore (Academy Award nominee Eddie Murphy) suddenly gets the idea to take on another identity and become the A popular person in the market. Borrowing from the street myths of 1970s Los Angeles, Moore transformed into "Dolemite," a cane-wielding pimp and porn joke master. His ambitions, however, went beyond selling these bootleg records, which were deemed too pornographic to be played on mainstream radio. Moore convinces a social justice-minded playwright (Keegan-Michael Key) to write a movie about his alter ego that incorporates kung fu, car chases, and Mrs. Reed ( Damien Joy Randolph), a former backup singer who ends up becoming his unexpected comic supporting role.
