Synopsis of The Misfortunates

The thirteen-year-old boy followed his father and uncle at home and did all kinds of ridiculous things since he was a child. In the winter, they shave off their thick leg hair, put on makeup, and dress up as women and go to the pub to show off their coquettishness; in the summer, they ride their bicycles naked under the bright sun. Blood ties have become a heavy shackles for the boy, and he is used to seeing his uncles doing nothing all day long. He can't help but wonder whether he can't escape the reincarnation inheritance of fate. Between the fight and the drunkenness, the movie paints an incomplete but warm family portrait. The film follows a 13-year-old Belgian boy Gunther Strobbe in the 1980s. He lives with his father and three uncles at his grandmother's house. This family is composed of drunkards, gamblers and playboys, but Gunther Strobbe is not decent to outsiders. The family has a deep love.
