Ravenous

Synopsis of Ravenous

During the United States-Mexico Campaign in the 19th century, Army Captain John Ball was sent to a deserted Sierra Nevada outpost because of his cowardice. He lived a boring life with a ragtag group of inferior soldiers. Later, a Scottish man, Ives, broke into the military camp. He confessed that he originally went here with a group of people, but encountered a heavy snowstorm on the way, and everyone hid in a cave. Forced by hunger and cold, they actually killed each other and ate human flesh. Only Ives escaped from this crazy cave. After hearing the news, Captain Ball led a team to the cave to investigate, but unexpectedly Ives turned out to be an ogre. The story of this film looks like a low-grade bloody horror film, but it is actually quite serious and has a thought-provoking exploration of the themes of war and survival. Director Antonia Bate's fast-paced handling is not sloppy, and the latter part has a sense of black comedy. The two main characters, Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle, both feature.
