# Synopsis of The Importance of Being Earnest

Squire Worthing (played by Michael Redgrave) comes to London to visit Alger (played by Michael Denison), but the actual purpose is the latter's cousin Gwendolan. In order to facilitate the visit to Gwendolan, Worthing invented a shady London concubine. Ernest. Alger had a soft spot for Cicely, a girl under Worthing's guardianship in the country, so he came forward to help Worthing propose to Gwendolan. Although the pseudonym Ernest (sincerity) had an inexplicable attraction to the girl, Worthing His outcast background made his future mother-in-law refuse. Alger rushed to his country residence before Worthing, pretending to be Ernest and met Cicely as he wished.
