Synopsis of Lassie Come Home

Yorkshire, England, during the Great Depression. Sam Gecklough (Donald Crisp) is a poor family, and the only thing of value is a smart shepherd dog, Lacey. Lacey is a good partner of his younger son Joe (Roddy McDowall). However, forced to make a living, Sam sold Lacey to the wealthy Duke (Nigel Bruce). Lacey, who deeply missed her master, ran away several times. Finally, in distant Scotland, Lacey began her journey back to her true master's home. The color film "Lacy", released in 1943, was adapted from the work of the same name by the British writer Eric Mobley Knight. This children's book, which is well-known around the world, tells the story of Lassie, a sheepdog who is as smart as a human being, and his legendary journey home. Lacey's adventures have become one of the most enduring stories ever filmed, and have been made into many movies, TV series and radio dramas. The film was nominated for Best Cinematography (Color) at the 16th Academy Awards in 1944.
