Synopsis of The Contender

The sudden death of the Vice President pushed Democratic Senator Ryan (Joan Allen) to the forefront. She was nominated as the best presidential candidate. If Ryan is elected, she will become the first female president in American history. Ryan's gender soon became the target of fierce attacks by the conservative parties, among which Xie Li (Gary Oldman) was the most aggressive. Xie Li is a wily and cunning old politician.
