Synopsis of The Whales of August
Things are unpredictable in the summer in Maine. The whales no longer swim close to shore, as they did when the two old widow sisters were young. They own a seaside home where they have spent 50 summers. Libby is blind and appears to be dying; Sara looks after her sister but is worried about continuing to care for her and is half-hearted about an old Russian nobleman who is fishing on their beach. When Sarah's 46th wedding anniversary came, the Russians gave them some fish they had caught, and Sarah invited him to a dinner. Libby also sat upright. Sarah wondered if it was time to sell the place and find another place for Libby. What plans do these old people have next?
