Synopsis of The History Boys

This is the story of a group of boys with high IQs. In the 1980s, in a boys' high school in northern England, eight high school students were actively preparing for the admissions examinations to Oxford and Cambridge universities. These boys have different personalities. There is Dakin (played by Dominic Cooper) who is a heartthrob and has a high self-esteem; there is Rudge (played by Russell Tovey) who has strong limbs and a simple mind, etc. They have their own interpretation of textbook knowledge. They are taught literature by a fat, strange old man Hector (played by Richard Griffiths) with a unique teaching method. He advocates that students gain emotional resonance and enjoyment through textbooks, rather than simply reading for further studies. Opposite of his teaching model is the school’s newly hired teacher Tom (Stephen Campbell Moore). Tom's goal is to help these children get into Oxford or Cambridge as much as possible. There may not be a standard answer as to which of the two teaching models of the two teachers is better or worse.
