Synopsis of Howl

This film is a biopic of the American "Beat" poet Allen Ginsberg (played by James Franco). The title "Howl" follows Ginsberg's long poem of the same name. Allen Ginsberg is a representative poet in the American postwar "Beat Generation" literary genre. His masterpiece "Howl" was controversial after its publication, and its publisher was even sued for selling obscene materials. Ginsberg's father was an unknown poet, and his mother was later sent to a mental hospital. Ginsburg is a homosexual. He had three homosexual relationships, the first two of which ended in nothing. The third relationship with Peter Oleski (Aaron Tveit) made him feel extremely happy. The experience became part of the inspiration for his long poem "Howl," and Peter became his lifelong partner. This film mainly uses three scenes: the court judge's poem "Howl", Ginsberg's confession of himself, and Ginsberg reciting a long poem in front of everyone to express the protagonist Ginsberg's life experience and his thoughts in the 1950s. Ginsberg's collaborator and cartoonist Eric Duke will also animate the poem "Howl."
