Synopsis of The Night of the Hunter

John (Billy Chapin) and Pearl (Sally Jane Bruce) are a pair of miserable siblings. Their father Ben (Peter Graves) was sentenced to hanging for robbery. Before being arrested, Ben hid the stolen money in Pell's rag doll and made them promise never to reveal the secret. Ben's cellmate Harry (Robert Mitchum) is a corrupt priest. He accidentally learned the whereabouts of the stolen money. After being released from prison, Harry found Ben's wife Vera (Shelley) · Shelley Winters), he tried every means to win Vera's heart and became the stepfather of John and Pearl. At this point, Harry's conspiracy began. Harry killed Vera, who was worthless to him, and dumped her body at the bottom of the river. He also coerced and lured the brother and sister to find out the secret of the stolen money. When all his efforts were fruitless, an angry Harry showed his true colors. John and Pearl escaped from Harry in a small boat. They wandered all the way to a strange place...
