Synopsis of The Seventh Seal

On the beach, with huge waves, the heroic knight Bullock (played by Max von Sydow) and the god of death in black (played by Bengt Ekerot) played a game of life and death. While playing chess, the knight was looking back on his life, and what he saw and heard coincided with the biblical picture. At the end of the Crusades in the fourteenth century, plague spread across the European continent and people were in dire straits. Bullock once met a couple in the circus. The husband believed in gods and was extremely pious, while the wife was more realistic and obeyed orders. Their mutual support makes happiness within easy reach. The knight met the blacksmith and his wife in the woods. The blacksmith is very rude, and his wife is very coquettish. They perform double acts in the woods to passers-by, like a pair of ridiculous puppets. Finally, after experiencing the collective worship ceremony, the samurai and his friends met the God of Death again. The helplessness and fear, anger and doubt that they had once turned into questions about life... The film won the Jury Prize at the 10th Cannes Film Festival.
