Synopsis of Concrete Night

"Concrete Night" tells the story of a single-parent family's day in a poor neighborhood in Helsinki. Ximen, a 14-year-old boy, is sensitive and confused. His mother has psychological problems and needs to take medication and cannot be alone. His brother was arrested for drug trafficking and will go to jail one day later. This special day started when Ximen dreamed that the train he was riding derailed and sank to the bottom of the water. Rivers poured in from all directions, leaving him with nowhere to escape... "Concrete Night" premiered in the Masters Section of the 2013 Toronto Film Festival and won 6 awards including Best Film and Director at the 2014 Finnish Hussi Academy Awards. The 67-year-old female director Pirkko Khancasaro has shot a large number of documentaries, such as "Three Melancholy Rooms". The two recent feature films "Fire Eaters (1998)" and "Concrete Night" were adapted from Pirkko Saisio novel.
