Synopsis of The Farewell

The film tells the story of a Chinese family whose grandma was diagnosed with cancer, but the family chose to hide it and let all the family members go home to see her grandma for the last time under the guise of a wedding. However, Billie (played by Awkwafina), who grew up in New York, believed that It is grandma's human right to know her condition, so a conflict between Chinese and Western cultures is staged in the Chinese family, a family comedy about searching for roots. The story is adapted from the family story of Chinese-American female director Wang Ziyi. She was also selected by Variety magazine as one of the directors to watch in 2019 for this film.
