Synopsis of Fear and Desire

This is Stanley Kubrick's first feature film. The script was written by his high school classmate and poet Howard Sackler, and Kubrick raised the funds for the filming himself, mostly borrowing money from his father, uncles and friends. This work is as full of surrealist symbolism as Kubrick's subsequent films, so only one art film company was willing to distribute and screen it. Kubrick believed that this film was just an internship work, and he only agreed to screen it privately. , and wanted to destroy the copy many times. Despite this, the film won praise from some critics, particularly for its cinematography.
