Buoyancy

Synopsis of Buoyancy

Chakra is 14 years old and living an exhausting life. He, his parents and his many siblings all worked together in the rice fields of Cambodia. At dinner, they sat around the wooden table in the cabin, and there were always differences of opinion between father and son. When a friend told Chakra about the possibility of making money in a factory, the boy decided to set out on his own. But along the way, he fell into the clutches of human traffickers and was sold into slavery. On the Thai fishing boat where he now has to work, the captain's regime is both cruel and arbitrary. Violence, torture and even murder are the order of the day in society today. Chakra realizes that his only hope is to escape his tormentors. Rod Rushkin's first feature film is a brutal and realistic depiction of the conditions of forced labor in Cambodia. The Australian director's approach is far from pretty and no one is immune. His gripping film is a passionate testimony to social injustice and a moving and shocking coming-of-age story about a boy whose humanity is tested.
