Waiting for Guffman

Synopsis of Waiting for Guffman

The small town of Blaine, Missouri, is preparing for the town's 150th anniversary celebration. A very, very, very washed-up Broadway director Corky is responsible for recruiting a group of amateur actors to perform a play documenting the town's history. He had high hopes for this play called "Red, White and Blaine Town" and invited Broadway producer Mr. Guffman to watch the premiere of the play. He believed that the play would be His springboard back to Broadway. But what kind of story will emerge when this group of actors who work hard but lack talent come together... This film is a 1996 work by director Christopher Guest. It was well received by critics after its release. It won three nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Screenplay at the 1998 Independent Spirit Awards.
