Synopsis of Captain Corelli's Mandolin

The small Greek island of Sephoronia is pure, peaceful and like a paradise. The islanders have lived here for generations without any worries. However, the war of World War II quickly broke this tranquility and peace. Italian Legion Captain Antonio Corelli (Nicolas Cage) led the soldiers to station on the island, both sides maintaining a hostile distance. The only thing that followed Corelli was a mandolin to relieve his loneliness. By chance, Corelli meets the local girl Pelagia (played by Penelope Cruz). The two were incompatible when they first got along, but Pelagia's elegant manners and tenacious character soon touched Corelli's heart, and Corelli's heavenly piano music also fascinated Pelagia. However, the good times are always so short. As the war approaches, the two people who fall in love have to make the final choice. This touching love story "War Lovers", which took place in the smoke and flames of World War II, is adapted from the best-selling novel "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" by the famous British writer Louis de Bournais. Actress Penelope Cruz was nominated for the "Audience-Best Actress" at the 14th European Film Awards in 2001 for this film.
