Synopsis of My Octopus Teacher

After spending years photographing some of the most dangerous animals on Earth, Craig Foster was exhausted, depressed, and his family relationships were in turmoil. He decided to put his career on hold and return to his hometown of Cape Town, South Africa, to return to the kelp forests near the coast, where the magical underwater world was his origin. For nearly a decade, Craig has been diving in freezing waters every day, stripping off his wetsuit and diving gear in one of the most predator-dense places on Earth. The common octopus he encountered and tracked first became the subject of his research and then became his teacher, showing him things no human had ever seen before. "My Octopus Teacher" took more than eight years and 3,000 hours to film, documenting unique friendships and interactions as well as unprecedented animal wisdom.
