Synopsis of Money

After a boy failed to ask for pocket money from his parents, he pawned his watch, but received a counterfeit 500 franc note in exchange. After that, the counterfeit note changed hands among many people, and finally fell into the hands of a young man named Ivan (Christian Patey). Ivan tried to spend the counterfeit money at a restaurant, but the waiter discovered it. The police thought he was involved in the counterfeit money trafficking case and arrested him, but the judge considered him a first offender and did not sentence him. After Ivan was released, he lost his job. Without money, he had no choice but to go to a bank to rob with his friends, but fell into the hands of the police again, was arrested and sent to prison, and was sentenced to three years... This film is Bresson's last work, adapted from Tolstoy. His short story "Counterfeit Coupons" won the Best Director Award in the Main Competition at the 36th Cannes Film Festival.
