Synopsis of The Great Debaters

The film is based on a true story and was nominated for the Teen Audience Award in the United States. In Texas in the 1930s, black people were deprived of the right to vote and suffered segregation and discrimination in employment, justice, military service, marriage and other aspects. Mel Tolson (Denzel Washington) hopes his compatriots will do something. He founded the first black college debate team at his school. After careful selection, four students stood out: Hamilton (Jermaine Williams), Henry (Nate Parker), Samantha (Jurnee Smollett) and James (Jurnee Smollett) Denzel Whitaker (played by Denzel Whitaker). As the debate team grew, Mel continued to challenge the traditional ideas of society at the time. His rebellious spirit and his fierce teaching methods were constantly criticized by people, but he always insisted on his beliefs, and finally entered Harvard University with the debate team...
