Synopsis of John Rabe

In 1937, German businessman Rabe (Ulrich Tukur), who has lived in Nanjing, China for many years, and his wife Dora were preparing to return to China. He handed over his position at Siemens China Branch to his successor. However, at the farewell party that day, the Japanese army began to bomb the city of Nanjing, burning and looting everywhere, causing a riot in Nanjing. Panic residents fled in all directions, and Rabe resolutely opened the company's door to take in Chinese employees and other refugees. Foreign missionaries, doctors, and businessmen in Nanjing discussed establishing a "Nanjing International Safety Zone" in Nanjing to ensure the safety of innocent people, and Rabe was elected as the chairman. Rabe, who originally decided to return home the next day, decided to stay and save innocent people. When he witnessed the inhumane atrocities inflicted by the Japanese imperialist army on the people of Nanjing, Rabe became more active in fighting wits with his companions and the Japanese army in an attempt to save more lives. More and more refugees are pouring into the safe zone, which is completely beyond their imagination. At the same time, the atrocities of the Japanese army became more and more crazy. Rabe's humanitarian aid aroused their dissatisfaction. The safe zone was attacked by the Japanese army many times, and supplies became increasingly difficult. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people are waiting for Rabe...
