Synopsis of The Quiet American

A naive young American, a cynical old British diplomat at odds with politics in 1952 Vietnam and a beautiful young girl. In this adaptation of Graham Greene's prophetic novel about the failures of U.S. foreign policy in prewar Indochina, Audie Murphy plays a naive young American who meets an older, cynical Michael Redgrave is the opposite. Their competition for a young woman brought widespread disagreement to the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese people. Murphy wanted to reform her and make her into a typical middle-class American housewife; Redgrave, who accepted her inability to formulate or retain a political ideal while also promising her no real future, turned against Murphy Try to change her.
