Synopsis of Down by Law

There are two new "innocent" criminals in Orleans Prison: Zack (played by Tom Waits) and Jack (played by John Lurie). Zack is a DJ. After being abandoned by his girlfriend and wandering on the street, he accepted a job from a friend: he drove a car to a place, but he was stopped by the police on the way and later found a body in the back seat of the car; Jack was persuaded by an old friend to meet a beautiful young prostitute. Just when he was about to enjoy it, the police broke in and took him away. Soon, another Italian murderer Bob (played by Roberto Benigni) came to the prison. The three of them made a lot of jokes in a cell. Bored, they planned to escape from prison and succeeded. The three of them arduously walked through the swamp and through the woods to the hut where an Italian woman, Nicoletta (played by Nicoletta Braschi), lived. Two Italians, Bob and Nicoletta, were immersed in love, and in the end only Jack and Zac were left...
