Synopsis of Faces

This realistic film highlights the isolation and loneliness between people. John Cassavetes was both a character actor and a successful director. The independently produced film took eight months to shoot and cost $50,000 that he saved while working as an actor. In order to save costs, he used a 16mm camera to improvise in a borrowed house and reprinted the film into 35mm in his garage. It took him three full years to find a distribution agency, but after it was released, it was well received and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor and Actor. The film depicts the husband Richard flirting with prostitutes outside, while his wife Maria sleeps with a homeless man. When his wife's adultery is discovered by her husband, Richard scolds his wife, while Maria declares to him that they are The relationship is completely over.
