Synopsis of Farewell to the Ark
In a remote and isolated mountain village in Japan, the young master of the wealthy family, Daisaku (Yoshio Harada), stole the clocks of all the residents in the village and buried them underground. From then on, the village lost the concept of time and stood still. Many years later, Dasaku's cousin Sheki (played by Yamazaki Tsutomu) and his cousin Keiko (played by Shintaka Yuko) got married. However, Keiko's father put a chastity belt on his daughter to prevent incest. After many years of marriage, Sheji and his wife were very troubled by their sexual affairs, and Sheji was ridiculed by the villagers for having no children. One day, the angry Sheji couldn't bear it anymore and stabbed Dazao to death for laughing at him. After that, the couple chose to flee, but eventually returned to the village. From then on, Sheji could often see the ghosts of Dazuo, and gradually began to forget the names of the things around him, and his mind became abnormal. In this island-like village, weird things happen one after another and never stop... This film is the posthumous work of pioneering director Shuji Terayama.
