Synopsis of Ballad of Narayama
There is a Mount Narayana in Shinano, and people from nearby mountain villages have to go to Mount Narayama when they reach the age of seventy. Sixty-nine-year-old Aling (played by Sumiko Sakamoto) of the Shuzhu family still has three things that she can't let go of: First, her 45-year-old eldest son Tatsuhiri (played by Ken Ogata) became a widower last year; second, her 20-year-old eldest grandson Kasakiyoshi (played by Kurasaki Aoji) always laughs at his strong teeth in front of the villagers; third, the 35-year-old second son Risuke (played by Zuo Dunping) has not had sexual intercourse with a woman. On the annual sacrificial day, A Ling, who was waiting for the arrival of her new daughter-in-law Ayu (played by Akira Takeshiro), cruelly knocked out two front teeth on the stone mortar. During the rice harvesting season, Kasukagi brought Asomatsu (Junko Takada) from the Ameya family into the Shuzhunk family, but Asomatsu smuggled the food from the Shuzhunk family to the Ameya family. Chenping caught Osomatsu, but did not make any publicity, and just taught him a lesson in private. However, generations of thefts in the Amaya family finally aroused public outrage. The villagers not only ransacked Yuwu's house to avoid future trouble, but also buried Yuwu's entire family alive, and Asong was no exception.
