Synopsis of The Passenger

The famous British journalist David Locke (Jack Nicholson) traveled to North Africa intending to interview the local anti-government guerrillas, but due to language barriers, Locke was never able to reach the other party's camp. Locke returns to the hotel and finds Robertson, a neighboring businessman he met on the plane, dead. The similar appearance of the two made Locke suddenly decide to exchange identities with each other, so the news of Locke's death spread back to the country. Rachel, his wife, whose relationship with Locke was in a frozen period, was calm at first, but soon began to miss her husband. At the same time, Locke used Robertson's identity to contact some people and discovered that the businessman was secretly conducting arms transactions with the North African guerrillas. When Locke moved to Spain, a British producer contacted Rachel to prepare a movie about Locke. Rachel was very concerned about Robertson and suggested that the crew look for him. Locke met a girl (Maria Schneider) studying architecture in Spain. The two wandered together and evaded the British search, and got further and further in this identity game... The film won many awards including the 1976 Danish Bodie Award for Best European Film.
