Synopsis of Thirteen Assassins
It is the late Edo period, and Laomamiya Shu (played by Uchino Seiyo) of the Akashi clan's Edo family commits suicide in front of the house of the shogunate Lao Doi Oichiro (Hiragan Jiro). This move causes shock in the government and the public. Everything started with Qi Zhao (played by Goro Inagaki), the lord of the Akashi clan. Qi Zhao is the half-brother of the current general. He is bloodthirsty and tyrannical, which has aroused the dissatisfaction of many people in the court. However, Qi Zhao has been unofficially designated as the next Lao Zhong. In order to prevent the common people from being poisoned by him, Doi instructed Shimada Shinsakuemon (played by Yakusho Hiroshi) to assassinate Qi Zhao on his way back to the domain. Shinzaemon summoned 13 assassins including Kurunaga Saheita (played by Matsukata Hiroki), Mitsuhashi Gunjiro (played by Kazuki Sawamura), Hirayama Kujuro (played by Ihara Tsuyoshi), and laid down the underworld where Qi Zhao must pass. Layers of ambush... This film is a remake of Kudo Eiichi's 1963 classic of the same name. The new version of the script was written by Daisuke Tengan, the son of the famous director Shohei Imamura. The film won the fourth place in the top ten films of the 2010 Japanese Film Festival.
