Synopsis of murder on videotape

Marx (James Woods) is the director of a small television station. In order to increase ratings, Marx searches for dramas with pornographic or violent content. Marx's subordinate Harlan stole the satellite signal and obtained a program called Film and Television, which contained realistic and rough scenes of violent abuse. After watching this program, Marx could not forget it and lost interest in other series. Radio host Nicky (played by Deborah Harry) met Marx not long ago. This woman with masochistic tendencies was also attracted by the film and television industry, and went to Pittsburgh, where the program may be produced, to participate in the production. Marx was instructed to visit Professor Brian, the founder of the film and television studio, but he did not see the real person. The video featuring Nicky as the protagonist sent by the professor caused Marx to hallucinate. When Marx visited again, he learned that Brian had been killed long ago. The film and television program was managed by Barry from Amazing Vision Company. Step by step, Max fell into the trap designed by Barry, and became deeper and deeper between the two powers of Barry and Brian... The film won the 1984 Canadian Genie Award for Best Director.
