Synopsis of The Silence

In Europe, where the shadow of war has not yet dissipated, translator and intellectual Ester (Ingrid Thulin) took a train back to Sweden with her sister Anna (Gunnel Lindblom) and Anna's son Johan. On the way, Ester, who suffered from advanced lung disease, became ill. The three got off the bus in a small town where they couldn't speak the same language and checked into an old hotel. Ester always wants to peek into Anna's life intentionally or unintentionally, and wants to express his affection for her but has no way to do it, and Anna wholeheartedly thinks that Ester is her bondage. One night, Anna went out and met a bartender. After returning to the hotel, she described the sexual process and excitement in her fantasy to Ester, which caused a violent reaction from the other party. Later, she and the bartender had sex under Ester's eyes, which finally caused Ester to explode. The past events mixed with jealousy and conflict that had been hidden deeply in the hearts of the two people were brought up again.
