Synopsis of Tristana

Before her death, Tristana's (Catherine Deneuve) mother entrusted her to the care of Don Lupu (Fernando Rey). The aging Lupu has no worries about food and clothing, has a strong character and values honor, but at the same time, he is also a womanizer well known to the women in the town. Lupu is ostensibly Tristana's guardian, but he actually has a strong, hidden desire for her. Tristana felt repressed in Loup's home, and the maid and her deaf-mute son were far from friends with whom she could confide her concerns. During an outing, Tristana met a young painter by chance, who gave her hope of love. The painter who knew Tristana's situation beat Lupu, and the two left the town together.
